Hellooooo! I know, I know, it’s been a big break since last year, I’ve posted frequently on Instagram but neglected this blog. But my loooong reading slump is finally over and I’m back on track with reading, although I’m going to be reading much less, as I’m busy with some other things 🙂
I thought it would be great to start this year with the book that broke my slump. Ruth Ware is an auto-go author for me when I fancy a good thriller. I loved almost all her books, some more than others! To be perfectly honest, In a Dark Dark Wood will always be my favourite but this one was also really good.
The novel starts with a letter of plea- from prison… And Rowan tells her story, starting from her stumble upon a “too good to be true” nanny job ad in a newspaper. She sets off for the interview and finds a wealthy architect couple in a partly renovated Victorian mansion swamped by technological devices. The house itself is managed by an app called Happy & surveillance which is totally creepy.
She gets the job…And strangely, her employer departs the next day leaving her with 2 kids and a baby! Of course, weird things start to happen. Is Rowan imagining things? What is going on 👀?
I liked the ending but I have seen people not being happy with it. I can understand why but I flew through the pages with this one and it destroyed my reading slump so I cannot complain 😊If you love a well written tense read with surprises, don’t miss!
Hello and welcome back! Fab review I really want to read this one and have hopefully got a place on Tandem Collective’s Insta readalong. xx

I actually quite liked the ending, I thought it slotted the final piece of the jigsaw into place, made sense of what had seemed to be a pretty gaping hole in the story (which is what endings should do, of course). Glad to hear that this got you on a roll again! Happy reading!
