Karen McManus’s One of Us is Lying might the best thriller I’ve read this year. It is a roller coaster ride and have all the necessary elements of a page turner. Plus beautiful girls, handsome boys, a bit of romance. And the writing is faultless. There is no stupid lip biting or cheesy, tacky YA`OMG his muscles were so hard and my boobs had an earthquake` sort of nonsense. If you like a murder mystery set in a high school then you should read this.  It’s literally the perfect summer/holiday read.

I don’t want to tell you too much about the subject. I literally dived in with just knowing that: 5 kids gets sent to detention in a high school, something happens and one of them dies. I won’t even tell you who dies. The whole story is us finding out what really happened. The end was very satisfying.

There is tons of teenage drama, from prom queens to school geeks, teenage depression to bullying and I think the variety of events/issues in the story lines of the characters were very well arranged.

The characters are well built. Throughout the book I kept changing my mind about the identity of the killer, but I wasn’t able to guess truly. There were some bits in the story I got, and when it was revealed I was like : I KNEW IT! but I couldn’t see the ending coming!

This week I am feeling utterly depressed and needed something to read, to escape in and this book was a fabulous retreat for me. If you follow my blog you must know I am very picky when it comes to thrillers but I absolutely enjoyed every moment in this book and would be looking forward to the next book from McManus.

One thing to note though, I wish there was some explanations below the pages for the terms such as Homecoming queen, sophomore, freshman year etc as these are American terms and makes no sense to me and maybe some other UK readers.
