Barcelona Bookshop Crawl

Last week I was in Barcelona. We spent 5 days in this  beautiful city, and loved it. Of course as a book blogger & book lover, I knew I had to go to libraries and bookshops. Unfortunately due to Easter Holidays, libraries weren’t open but luckily some bookshops were!

Llibreria del Palau

We stumbled upon this tiny bookshop whilst walking to Palau de la Música Catalana, it’s pretty looking from the outside and has a nostalgic feel.

can you resist this look?

This bookshop not only offers second hand/rare books, but also lots of old magazines, booklets, newspapers, post cards, celebrity photos, every form of old print is available to browse and buy.

It’s small but has lots to explore in it.

Luckily, it also offers English books, if you don’t know Spanish or Catalan- like me!

The variety of old magazines and prints are tempting

There are postcards from almost everywhere. The prices are not too expensive. You can find some really interesting old prints and books here. I am glad we came across this gem of a bookshop. Afterall, Book lovers love smelling old books, right?

Tuuu Libreria

Tucked in the lovely Vila de Gracia district, Tuuu Libreria is a unique book shop. Books have NO PRICE TAG in this shop! Doesn’t that sound amazing?

Tuuu Libreria is a project. Books are second hand and are not priced, you give whatever you think is sufficient when you’re leaving the bookshop. The maximum number of books you can buy is whatever fits in your hands!

It is a beautifully designed bookshop and probably the most interesting bookshop I’ve ever been!

Although I modeled how many books might fit in my grubby hands – quite a few surprisingly-  I only bought one- one of the new editions of The Wuthering Heights. Lucky find!

Another quirk of the bookshop are the freebie postcards. They have organised a box with the cards / photos they’ve found in the books. You can take these for free.

Tuuu Libreria was founded in Madrid and have few shops there but I visited their Barcelona branch.

La Central

La Central has several shops around Barcelona and the one I visited was enormous! It’s big and have lots of books and prettily organised.

You can easily spend a few hours here even if you don’t know Spanish or Catalan.

Books are organised by the genre/subject and there are so many books to chose from!

The walls are also offering plenty to look for!

I loved the post cards & calendars on the wall.

The bookshop also offers a good range of English books, and they have a recommendations by the reader wall. I couldn’t help but recommend a book here.(Jess Kidd’s Hoarder)

Spotted an Orhan Pamuk section – delighted!

Lovely bookshop and they have quite a few spots in Barcelona…

Arkham Comics

DSC_0593

Hidden in cobbled streets of Gothic Quarter in Barcelona, this small comics / bookshop worth stopping by to have a look around! Loads of quirky comics and magazines.

Arkham doesn’t only have comics, but also lots of giftable small items for geeks, nerds and die-hard sci-fi fans!

The staff was incredibly friendly, and this tiny shop is a fine library of must-see comics, if you’re a lover of graphic novels you might be a tad sad that you don’t know Spanish or Catalan. But don’t abandon all hope- They also offer other languages too. Even Norwegian!

  1. Wonderful, I’ll have to remember this if I ever go to Barcelona. I can’t believe there’s a (second-hand) bookshop with no price tags. Very original and such a lovely idea but I’m not sure it would work here :-). How can they exist (yep always the practical one who kills all the romance haha)?

    • I shared this on twitter and most people said, it wouldn’t work in Turkey too.. (that’s where I am originally from)
But it kind of made faith in humanity restored for me! I was generous when I left there 🙂 I bet some people will abuse it, as they don’t check who puts in what but I think there will be people who will support them, because bookshops makes them happy ❤

    • Thanks Vera! It’s though, as there is always tons of things to see in a new place, but bookshops are always a winner to understand how readers behave in these other countries 😀

  2. The idea of Tuuu Libreria sounds absolutely lovely! It sounds like they really just appreciate the books and the customer’s appreciation of the book, which is such a sweet move for a bookstore. Glad you enjoyed the trip! Looks like you had a terrific time! 😀
